Dr. Ajdari’s paper, “3D Numerical Analysis of the Seismic Response of a Clay-Core Rockfill Dam under Drought,” explores the seismic performance of rockfill dams in the context of prolonged drought conditions. Using GTS Midas software for advanced 3D modeling, the research evaluates the influence of seismic impulse direction, dam geometry, support conditions, and proximity to earthquake epicenters. His findings emphasize the critical need for accurate 3D modeling in dam safety assessments, revealing that vertical impulses in near-field seismic events can cause the most severe dynamic responses—insights that 2D models often miss.
